This fun and original collective worship session aims to assist children in understanding the value of endurance, through: Understanding what endurance is, and recognising why it is important; Understanding what the bible teaches us about endurance, and learning about how Jesus demonstrated endurance; Completing a fun challenge to demonstrate their own endurance; Learning strategies to demonstrate endurance in their own lives. This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to real-life examples of endurance in action (for example in the lives of J.K Rowling, Ed Sheeran and Lionel Messi) in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives. The session also includes a reading and discussion centering on the endurance shown by Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The session also includes a fun interactive activity, a wonderful, thought-provoking video about the importance of endurance, and various discussion activities regarding how to show endurance in different areas of their own lives. No further resources are required, except for 3 potatoes and 3 straws for the endurance activity. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included two pages of notes to assist the speaker. This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in (for example how they might act towards those in need both within and out of school) in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives. The session also includes a fun role-play task, a beautiful, thought-provoking video about the importance of compassion, and various discussion activities regarding how to show compassion in different areas of their own lives. No further resources are required, everything that you need to present the assembly is included. This includes a child-friendly adapted bible story about Jesus demonstrating compassion towards a man with leprosy. This fun and original collective worship aids children in understanding the value of wisdom. It was delivered as the first in a series of three worship sessions on wisdom (available as a Bundle) although it works equally as well as a standalone session. In this session, a particular focus is placed on defining wisdom and understanding that wisdom sometimes means seeking support from others, to help us to make wise choices. This is achieved through: -Defining wisdom and thinking about how we can show the characteristics of being wise; -Identifying times in which we might need to seek support; -Reading and understanding a child-friendly reading of 1 Kings 3:3–15; 2 Chronicles 1:1–13 in which KIng Solomon asks God for wisdom; -Analysing a bible quote from proverbs about the value of seeking advice; -Relating these teachings to the lives of the children - considering how they can seek support both in their learning and at break/ lunchtimes (without relying too much on their teachers/ adults!); -Singing a hymn relating to seeking support and reflecting through prayer. The session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation, a hyperlink to the necessary hymn, and both a PDF and Word copy of the script for the fable. It was delivered as a part of a series of three worship sessions on wisdom (available as a bundle), but works equally well as a standalone worship session. This is achieved through: -Recalling the definition of wisdom and thinking about how we can show the characteristics of being wise; -Thinking about what the word ‘hazard’ means and discussing what we know about hazards; -Watching a video of a reading of Psalms 23 (hyperlinked) and discussing the literal and figurative meanings of the Lord being our ‘shepherd’ and helping us to stay safe in the face of dangers; -Relating these teachings to the modern world - discussing how we can overcome the hazards that we face in our own lives (through the ideas of preventing, avoiding and overcoming); -Singing a hymn relating to the Lord guiding us through life, before reflecting through prayer. This session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The session also includes an interesting bible story, detailing one man’s thankfulness after being healed by Jesus, entitled ‘The Man that Came Back.’ Furthermore, there is an internet link to a beautiful, thought-provoking video which demonstrates how far too often we spend time focused on what we don’t have, rather than the many ways in which we are fortunate. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to understand how they can be thankful in different areas of their own lives.
